Paper for Facebook (an IOS app)

Today Facebook announced its latest standalone app, Paper. Launching exclusively on iOS on February 3, the app provides an optimized version of your news feed that allows you to quickly scroll through posts and curated news stories with larger-quality images and text. You can customize what will show up in your feed using a feature called Sections, which will allow you to choose from a number of genres of stories such as headlines, creators and flavors.
If the app works as presented, it is possible you can expect it to become a replacement for the current Facebook mobile app. Utilizing a news feed that owes a lot to Flipboard and the ability to post images, stories and statuses directly to your page, the app looks like an idealized version of what your current feed is supposed to be currently providing.
Paper is controlled via gestures, so there is a bit of a learning curve, however the app has a HUD that will pop up to teach you when you start out. Your feed is shown via a series of story cards, demonstrated in the video below. You can either scroll through your cards one by one or in a feed. When you select a card, the story takes over your whole screen. You'll see your friend's new photo albums in an optimized view alongside curated news stories targeted at your interests.
According to The Verge, the app will be completely ad-free when it launches. Paper hits the iOS Store exclusively on February 3. You can watch its launch video below.

Apple Said To Be Focusing On Health With iOS 8 And iWatch, Following Exec Meeting With FDA

Apple’s plans for iOS 8 focus on redefining health tracking via mobile devices, according to a new report from 9to5Mac, which has a terrific track record when it comes to rumors it has sourced itself. The report details a new marquee application coming in iOS 8 called “Healthbook” that monitors all aspects of health, fitness and workout information, including vitals monitored via the new iWatch, which is said to pack a bevy of sensors and to be “well into development” according to 9to5Mac’s sources.
The health monitoring app called “Healthbook” will come pre-installed on iOS 8, which, if true, would be a huge blow to third-party apps including those made by Fitbit, Nike, Runkeeper and Withings just to name a few. It would track and report steps, calories burned, distance walked and more, including weight fluctuations, and blood pressure, hydration levels, heart rate and more.
Apple’s focus on health in iOS 8 is given credence by a number of new reports from this week, including the news from the New York Times earlier today that Apple execs met with the FDA late last year to discuss mobile medical applications. Apple also reportedly hired Michael O’Reilly, M.D. away from a position as Chief Medical Officer of Masimo Corporation in July 2013. O’Reilly is an expert in pulse oximetry among other things, which is used to non-invasively take key vitals from a user via optical sensors.
9to5Mac’s report details functionality of the proposed “Healthbook” app, which, as its name suggests, takes a lot of cues from Passbook. It’ll offer swipeable cards for each vital stat it tracks, letting users page through their medical and health information. The report cautions that this functionality could be taken out prior to the final release of iOS 8: With the FDA’s involvement, one concern might be getting the necessary approvals to market the software as a potential medical aid.
As for the iWatch, the new report doesn’t add much in terms of firm details, but it does suggest we could see a release before year’s end, and offers that it could feature sensors that provide data to Healthbook. That app could also use existing third-party monitors and devices designed for iOS to source data, however. One more tidbit about the iWatch suggests that maps will be a central feature of the device, and navigation on the wrist is actually a prime potential advantage of smartwatch devices that has yet to be properly explored.
We’ve reached out to Apple for comment on these developments, and will update if we learn anything more.

dead bodies on Mt. everest

The summit of Mount Everest is a dream that can truly end in death. There are about two hundred dead bodies on the mountain. Most of the bodies are in the same exact position they were when they died. Perfectly preserved in time because of the cold. Along the route up to the summit climbers will pass all these bodies. There are bodies over 50 years old that look like they were placed there yesterday.

Several bodies are given names like “green boots” according to some of their most visible features. This one has become sort of landmark and has been in the same place since 1996. It is a bit harsh and cruel to call the remains of someone by some part of its equipment, but I guess that is the result of living in such harsh conditions for a very long time. The weather is cold, air is extremely rare with ridiculously low pro cent of oxygen and it takes great will to survive, you might even say a great spite and determination to conquer the nature and push your body to extremes.

I wonder how does a mountaineer feel while passing by these horrific monuments of those who didn’t manage to reach the top. Does this makes them try even harder because they see very evidently what will happen to them if they give up or do these terrible scenes give them chills and make them lose hope? I guess it depends on the nature of the climber, but I guess that people who give up easy wouldn’t even start this adventure. There is a good reason why only few people pluck up courage and go on such devastating trip and take such auto-destructive actions like climbing the Mount Everest .
